Which meetings should a Scrum Master facilitate?

As Scrum Master, you will be responsible for leading the following meetings:
  • Sprint Planning: This is the meeting where the Scrum team defines the sprint objectives, identifies the product backlog items to be included in the sprint and plans how it will work together to achieve the sprint objectives.
  • The Daily Stand-up Meeting: This meeting is held every day during the sprint and enables the Scrum team to synchronize, share progress, identify obstacles and help each other achieve the sprint goals.
  • The Sprint Review: This is the meeting where the Scrum team presents the elements of the product backlog completed during the sprint and obtains feedback from stakeholders. The aim of this meeting is to validate that the sprint objectives have been met and that the work is of sufficient quality.
  • Visit Retrospective This is the meeting where the Scrum team reflects on the sprint just completed, identifies the positives and negatives and discusses ways to improve its work process for the next sprint.
In addition to these meetings, the Scrum Master is also responsible for facilitating collaboration between Scrum team members and removing obstacles to their work. He is therefore called upon to facilitate other synchronization meetings between members of his team and other teams in his organization, in the event of dependencies.

According to the latest figures I’ve been able to consult on Linkedin Salary and Glassdoor, the average salary for a Scrum Master in France is between 45k€ and 60k€ Gross. It all depends on the city and the company. For example, the salary of a DM in Paris working for a large group will be much higher than the national average.

What career path for a Scrum Master?

After working as a Scrum Master, there are several directions in which you can move, depending on your aspirations and skills. Here are a few examples:

  • Become an agile coach: if you’ve acquired solid experience as a DM, you could consider becoming an agile coach. As a coach, you’ll help teams adopt and improve their agile practices, providing advice, training and mentoring.
  • Become a Product Owner: if you’re passionate about product management and have a deep understanding of user needs, you could consider becoming a Product Owner. As Product Owner, you’ll be responsible for managing the product backlog and aligning priorities with user and business needs.
  • Become a project manager: if you have project management experience, you could consider becoming a project manager. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing complex projects.
  • Become an RTE (Release Train Engineer): if you have experience as a Scrum Master on several teams, you could consider becoming an RTE. As an RTE, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing multiple teams to achieve broader strategic objectives across a SAFe program.
